With many sports car manufacturers attempting to defy the limits of physics, the appeal of sports cars doesn’t look like it will wane any time soon. With their sleek look and powerful engines, sports cars continue to capture the attention of both the young and old.
Even though they offer a thrilling ride and exciting acceleration, sports cars tend to be gas guzzlers. It’s rare to find a gasoline-powered sports car with a fuel economy of 30 mpg or higher. For next year, these sports cars offer the best fuel economy.

10 Porsche 718 Cayman - 24 MPG
With six trim levels of the 2023 Porsche 718 Cayman, there’s no limit to the fun and excitement you get. The base 718 Cayman comes with a 2.0-liter boxer engine that pumps out 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. If that’s not powerful enough for you, you can opt for the 493-hp GT4 RS with some extra cash, of course.
The Porsche 718 Cayman is a bit more hardcore than the Boxster, even though they share the same mechanical hardware. It can cover a distance of 21 miles on a gallon in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Add that to the sublime driving experience of the 718 Cayman, and you will agree it’s a must-have sports car.
9 Subaru BRZ - 25 MPG
Just like its Toyota GR86 mechanical twin, the Subaru BRZ is an affordable, light, and nimble sports car with a rear-wheel drive layout. Whether you are a beginner driver or a total pro, the 2023 Subaru BRZ does well to inspire confidence on the road.
The new BRZ gets its motivation from a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated flat-four-cylinder engine that delivers 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. It’s by no means a gas guzzler, as the fuel economy estimate is around 21/30 mpg in the city/highway.
8 Nissan Z - 22 MPG
The fully redesigned 2023 Nissan Z draws inspiration from previous versions while giving us a glimpse of what to expect in the near future in terms of technology. The Nissan Z is an affordable alternative to the likes of the Audi TT and the Toyota GR Supra.

The next trim level —3.0L 6-cylinder— produces 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. With its RWD configuration, sure-footed chassis, and sharp steering, the GR Supra displays its true colors on curvy roads and racetracks. The official fuel economy estimates of the 2023 Toyota GR Supra stands at 23/31 MPG in the city/highway.
6 Audi TT - 25 MPG
Even though the third-generation Audi TT was last redesigned in 2016, the latest iteration doesn’t look outdated at all. The Audi TT still maintains its fun-to-drive nature. With the TT’s all-wheel drive configuration, you enjoy all-weather capability.
The best part of the new TT is that Audi doesn’t sacrifice performance for fuel economy. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to produce 228 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The EPA estimated fuel economy of the 2023 TT is pegged at 23/30 in the city/highway.
5 Toyota GR86 - 25 MPG
Going back to the basics, Toyota introduces a new GR86 that’s fun to drive for drivers of all skill levels. With its front engine and rear-wheel drive layout, the 2023 Toyota GR86 offers thrilling driving dynamics at a pocket-friendly price.
Powering the 2023 GR86 is a naturally aspirated boxer 2.4-liter 4-cylinder powertrain that cranks out 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The fuel economy of the 2023 GR86 is estimated to be around 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the freeway.

4 BMW Z4 sDrive30i - 28 MPG
The BMW Z4 gets a refresh in its mid-third-generation, appearing more aggressive. It is surprisingly roomier for a two-seater. Sharing the same engine and chassis with the Toyota Supra, the Z4 edges its mechanical twin in terms of luxury.
With a price tag of roughly $10,000 more than the GR Supra, the Z4 offers you a posher cabin, better ride quality, and better fuel economy. Even though BMW doesn’t offer the traditional manual transmission for the 2023 Z4, the 8-speed automatic is there to deliver snappy shifts and sharp responses. The official EPA estimates for the 2023 Z4 aren’t available yet, but the sDrive30i should be around 25/32 mpg in the city/highway.
3 Chevrolet Camaro - 25 MPG
The iconic Chevrolet Camaro remains a blast to drive. With eight trim levels, there’s something for everyone. The 6.2-liter Camaros pose a threat to most Challengers and the top-of-the-line ZL1 can outhandle the Mustang Shelby GT500.
The Camaro is a polished performer on a winding road. The trim with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine that’s paired with an automatic transmission offers the best fuel economy, with a city/highway rating of 22/30 mpg. With reports indicating the Camaro will be discontinued in 2024, this might be the best fuel economy for a Camaro.
2 Aston Martin DB11 V8 - 20 MPG
Pulling up in an Aston Martin DB11 instantly turns all heads in your direction, as it exudes grace and elegance like no other sports car. The DB11 comes with rear seats that won’t exactly fit an adult, but it’s more practical than the Volante. The well-adjusted steering transmits a good impression of the road to your hands, inspiring confidence even on the most demanding roads.
The 2023 DB11 with a 4.0-liter V8 with an 8-speed automatic transmission produces up to 528 hp. Its fuel economy rating is 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Going by the EPA figures, the 2023 DB11 V8 is more fuel efficient than the V12 option.
1 Mazda MX-5 - 34 MPG

The 2023 Mazda MX-5 doesn’t offer much when it comes to power, with a 2.0-liter inline-four engine that produces 230 hp. On the upside, the EPA combined fuel economy rating is 34 mpg, making the MX-5 one of the most fuel-efficient sports cars in 2023.
