ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Javon Baker, Central Florida

Justin Weigal 18 days ago

Baker suffered from poor quarterback play all year and had a lot of heavily contested targets. He showed the ability to run routes and get open except this was against the poor Big-12 competition. However, the Senior Bowl showed his ability to run normal routes and get open against better opponents.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Keon Coleman, Florida State

Justin Weigal 18 days ago

Coleman started his career at Michigan State and was a starting contributor by his sophom*ore year. His best season was in 2022 with 58 receptions for 798 yards. After his transfer to Florida State, he had to share the targets with three other future NFL players, so his numbers dipped to 658 yards in 2023.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Troy Franklin, Oregon

Justin Weigal 18 days ago

Franklin heavily benefited from playing with the most accurate quarterback in college football statistically. Bo Nix was able to fit the ball into tight windows but also targeted Franklin at a high rate because he was open so much. The main question he will have to answer to teams is: will the 6-foot-2, 176-pound frame be a problem in the NFL?

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Adonai Mitchell, Texas

Justin Weigal 18 days ago

Adonai Mitchell blew up the combine and started consideration for first-round potential in the media. The ideal 6-f0ot-2, 205-pound build ran a 4.34 40-yard dash and posted one of the best broad jumps for a receiver ever at 11-feet-4-inches. Mitchell is the receiver with the widest range of outcomes.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Xavier Worthy, Texas

Justin Weigal 26 days ago

Quinn Ewers provided passable quarterback play for him but often missed him on wide open throws so his production could have been a lot higher. Despite his speed, he only had a charted 234 deep-yards and caught just four out of 17 deep targets.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Malik Washington, Virginia

Justin Weigal 27 days ago

Washington went from being an unknown senior at Northwestern to being second in all of college football with 1,384 yards and leading the Power-5 by 20 catches with 111 receptions. His 80 percent catch rate is the highest for any receiver with over 100 targets this season.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Roman Wilson, Michigan

Justin Weigal 27 days ago

Wilson had an excellent Senior Bowl where he created clear separation on every route. The questions about his ability to run sharp routes were quickly answered. His body mass index and 40-yard dash time were very ideal at the NFL Combine.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Xavier Legette, South Carolina

Justin Weigal 27 days ago

Xavier Legette ran a relatively diverse route tree that was better than DK Metcalf coming out. Slants are the one area you do not see him perform in, but his athleticism should allow him to be similar to how Metcalf progressed in this area.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Ricky Pearsall, Florida

Justin Weigal 28 days ago

Ricky Pearsall is a versatile wide receiver who spent about half of his snaps from the slot and half outside. In his last year, he had an excellent 31.2 percent of his team’s yards in games he played which is just below Rome Odunze and right ahead of Brian Thomas Jr.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Malachi Corley, Western Kentucky

Justin Weigal April 18, 2024

Malachi Corley has been crowned the “yards after the catch king” and the film matches that every bit. The 5-foot-11 215-pound monster of a man has the ability to run over anyone in his way but also has the speed to outrun defenders.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Ladd McConkey, Georgia

Justin Weigal April 18, 2024

McConkey started receiving first-round buzz after cooking every cornerback at the Senior Bowl, but these are the same skills he displayed all year on All-22 film. There is no major weaknesses to his game besides less-than-ideal size. He is a fluid mover for every route type but has not shown the ability to win on deep-balls just yet.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Rome Odunze, Washington

Justin Weigal April 12, 2024

Rome Odunze is an elite prospect who is probably the best we have seen since Ja’Marr Chase in 2021, CeeDee Lamb in 2020, and Amari Cooper in 2015. In terms of rankings between them, he would fit right behind Chase and is in the same tier as Lamb and Cooper.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Malik Nabers, LSU

Justin Weigal April 12, 2024

Malik Nabers is a blue-chip prospect who should be a routine Pro Bowler in the right situation. He seemingly came out of almost nowhere as he went from 726 yards last year to 1,545 yards this year while posting the highest-ranked Pro Football Focus receiving grade of 93.5.

ROOKIE PROFILE: WR Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State

Justin Weigal April 5, 2024

Marvin Harrison Jr. is the long-awaited wide receiver prospect with no real weaknesses to his game. He consistently has a high number of contested catches (30 each year), but this is mostly due to scheme rather than his inability to separate. The contested rate percentage caught was down this year but if you watch the games, quarterback play is clearly to blame for this.

DRAFT DAY: Value Running Backs To Target

Justin Weigal September 4, 2023

Dobbins has not been given this kind of workload yet, but he is another year removed from his ACL tear which is important. Magically, he had 5.7 yards per carry last year with a long run of just 44 yards. He was on pace for over 1,000 yards if he was healthy the full season.

MAKING THE CASE: Nick Chubb As The No. 1 Fantasy RB In 2023

Gary Davenport September 1, 2023

This isn’t some subjective assessment made by an admitted Cleveland Browns fan clinging desperately to any sort of positivity regarding that soul-sucking vortex of a football team. There is no shortage of stats that back up Chubb’s status as one of the league’s truly elite backs.

DRAFT DAY: Wide Receiver Traps to Avoid

Justin Weigal August 30, 2023

The downside to Adams is a mix of the predicted decline due to age curve, quarterback change and offensive competition. Similar to how running backs have increased injury after large workload seasons, we have seen it with wide receivers over 180 targets.

DRAFT DAY: Running Back Traps to Avoid

Justin Weigal August 25, 2023

Between hitting the Year 8 wall described above and having the team add a third round draft complement to him, it is unlikely that Henry will pay off at his RB6 ADP. It also does not help that Henry has PFF’s worst graded offensive line. The efficiency metrics have slowly been falling off as well.

2023 Fantasy Football: Ten Deep Sleepers To Know

Scott Engel August 3, 2023

The 49ers, as we know, spent a significant amount of draft capital on Trey Lance, and have not moved him. Any signs of slippage from what we saw from Purdy last year can lead to Lance getting another chance to jump back into a spot where he can provide significant fantasy upside.

DRAFT DAY: Making The Case For TE Travis Kelce As The First Pick in 2023

Gary Davenport June 30, 2023

Travis Kelce affords fantasy managers the closest thing to a guaranteed edge that exists in the game. He’s all but certainly going to be the highest-scoring player at his position. He’ll quite possibly be so by a wide margin. His fantasy floor is most players’ ceilings.

FANTASY DRAFT: Depressed Assets in 2023

Patrick White June 19, 2023

Jared Goff quietly put up almost 4,500 yards and just missed the 30-touchdown mark last season. He’ll have Amon-Ra St. Brown back fully healthy, a new best friend in Jahmyr Gibbs, old reliable in Marvin Jones, and eventually he’ll have Jameson Williams at his disposal.

2023 FANTASY BUST ALERT: Davante Adams, WR, Las Vegas Raiders

Gary Davenport June 10, 2023

Like it or not, Adams is getting older. He doesn’t appear pleased with the direction of the franchise he just joined a year ago. From a fantasy perspective, he’s undergoing a downgrade at quarterback in 2023 — and that’s if Garoppolo can stay healthy. And there’s another wide receiver in Vegas now who could clip 10-15 percent off even Adams’ target share — easily.

Patrick White May 25, 2023

2023 ROOKIE DRAFT PREVIEW: Tyjae Spears, RB, Tulane

Gary Davenport April 18, 2023

If you’re a believer in Tyjae Spears and the comparisons to players like Tony Pollard, Austin Ekeler and Aaron Jones, then he’s going to be available at a position of value in rookie drafts. And it’s well within the realm of possibility that Spears could follow a similar trajectory as that trio of backs.

2023 ROOKIE DRAFT PREVIEW: Zach Charbonnet, RB, UCLA

Gary Davenport April 16, 2023

While Zach Charbonnet may not be the generational talent that Bijan Robinson is regarded as, he’s a gifted prospect in his own right with a well-rounded skill-set who could easily make a fantasy dent as a rookie in the right landing spot.

2023 ROOKIE DRAFT PREVIEW: Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama

Gary Davenport April 5, 2023

Depending on where Jahmyr Gibbs’ career gets its beginning, his explosiveness and pass-catching chops could boost him into high-end RB2 territory in redraft formats. In dynasty startups, he might even climb into low-end RB1 territory.
