Citizens Against Big Lick

The "Big Lick" artificial gait is only achieved through inhumane practices inflicted upon horses. It involves applying harmful substances such as mustard oil, diesel fuel, and kerosene just above the horse's hoof, resulting in severe pain. A chain, known as an action device, is wrapped around the leg, causing the horse to flinch due to pain, which ultimately creates the Big Lick. This is a far cry from the natural gait of the Tennessee walking horse, which is inherently beautiful. The detrimental effects include scarring due to excessive chemical burning, which disqualifies horses from shows as USDA inspectors can identify these chemical burn scars. Most of these physically scarred horses tragically end up in the slaughter pipeline.
