Moray Laing

It is with great sadness that we report that former club member Moray Laing has passed away. People may remember Moray as a dedicated club member who ran as well as being a talented field athlete, even though he had undergone a kidney transplant. He used to take part in the British and European transplant games with great success and still holds a number of club records in throwing events. We would like to direct you to a couple of dedications to Moray from recent Banstead Woods parkrun newshereandhere.

Stewart McIntyre's Coast to Coast Walk

Stewart reports that he has completed his coast to coast walk from Weston Super Mare to Dover last week. He says that it took 17 days and covered almost 300 miles. He added: "I can safely say 'never again' . I know everyone says that after a marathon but ….. !"

You will recall that Stewart was walking to raise funds for the YMCA East Surrey. He thanks everyone who sponsored him; if you meant to do so but didn't get round to it his Just Giving page is still open.

Park Run PBs

There were PBs for two RPAC juniors in the local park runs this last weekend. Keagan Stricker Timmerman improved his PB by 12 seconds to 20m 28s in the senior park run, whilst Lucas Nilsson took a second of his PB for the Junior Park run. Congratulations to you both.

Lily B - Epsom Saturday 29 June

Summer finally arrived for the Lily B event held at Epsom on Saturday. In beautiful weather thirteen RPAC athletes competed in the third match in this year's series.

It was a good day for our endurance runners with Millie Mckay and Sophia Foxwell both achieving PBs in the U15 800m and Olivia Aries doing likewise in the 1500m. Indeed it was a good day for the U15s all round as Lara Tombleson PB'd in the High Jump and her sister Florence did in the 300m.

In the U11s Miia Voutilainen achieved a PB in the 75m as did Imogen Leung in the 600m. Eleni Harvey jumped well to finish third overall in the U11 Long Jump.
It was great to have three girls competing for the Club for the first time, Alexandra Nixon, Meda Gailiuniene and Sophia Foxwell.

Many thanks to Valerie Du Preez, our lone Official ,who spent over seven hours sat out in the full glare of the heat timekeeping.

The fourth and final match in this year's league is on Saturday 24 August.

Strength and Conditioning Class

I’m told that the first of the new strength and conditioning classes led by Alex Crump at Mercer’s Country Park last Wednesday was a great success. Nat said :" Feedback was very positive and classes will be tailored for us runners. Alex is very encouraging. I definitely felt it the next day! " The next session will be on Wednesday 10th July.

Up-Coming Races

Cranleigh 7/14/21, 14 July

The MABAC's only fundraising race, theCranleigh 7/14/21, is coming up on Sunday, 14th July, and it would be terrific to get a great turnout. The race itself is mostly flat, multi-terrain, and you can decide whether you want to run 7, 14, or 21 miles on the day. But more importantly, MABAC relies on profits raised from this to ensure that the league races are free to all member clubs. This year, it will be a championship race for the Association of Running Clubs, under whose jurisdiction all MABAC races are run, so there will be prizes!

As a member club we are required to provide two volunteers to help marshal. If you are able to help please email Reigate Priory AC News 1st July 2024 (11)

You can see a full list of other races and eventson our website here. Do get in touch with the appropriate league managers if you have any queries - see theWho's who pageto find out the contact details. All of these events should be onour calendar.
