2500 lbs Winch
First and foremost, determine a secure route for the wiring from the point where the winch will be mounted to the battery. You might want to route the wires under the vehicle, attaching them to the frame using suitable fasteners.
Avoid attaching the wires to components such as the exhaust system, drive shaft, emergency brake cable, or fuel line, which could damage the wiring or create a fire hazard. This is a must for any winch you might be installing.
- Connect a black wire from the winch’s positive terminal to the battery’s negative terminal.
- Connect a red wire from the solenoid box to the winch’s positive terminal.
- Connect a wire from the solenoid box to one terminal of the circuit breaker.
- Connect another wire from the other terminal of the circuit breaker to the battery’s positive terminal.
- To enable the use of the wireless remote for winch operation, connect the remote controller switch to your solenoid box.
3500 lbs Winch
- If you need to drill through the bumper or any part of the vehicle body to route the wires, install a rubber grommet in the hole to prevent the wires from fraying.
- Route the cables from the solenoid to the battery and from the solenoid to the winch, following the precautions discussed earlier. Refer to the wiring connections diagram (Figure E).
- Connect the wires from the solenoid to the terminals on the winch.
- Connect the circuit breaker to the positive terminal on the battery and to the solenoid.
- Connect the black battery cable directly to the negative terminal of the battery.
- Connect the remote control and handlebar switch according to the diagrams provided.
- Connect the red wire from the socket to an ignition circuit that is switched by the vehicle’s key. The winch will not operate if this wire is not properly connected.
- Use a circuit tester to find a wire that energizes when the vehicle’s key is turned on and turns off when the key is turned off. Connect the wire shown in Figure F to this wire. If you’re not attaching the winch to a vehicle, attach the ignition wire to the positive battery terminal.
5000 lbs Winch
- Route the cables from the solenoid to the battery and from the solenoid to the winch, following the precautions discussed earlier.
- Connect the wires from the solenoid to the terminals on the winch.
- Connect the circuit breaker to the positive terminal on the battery.
- Connect the red battery cable to the circuit breaker.
- Connect the black battery cable directly to the negative terminal of the battery.
- Follow the diagrams provided in the manual to wire in the switch controller and socket lead.
- The cable leading from the socket lead has a red wire extending out from its side. Connect this to an ignition circuit that is switched by the vehicle’s key to help prevent accidental starting. The winch will not operate if this wire is not properly connected.
- Use a circuit tester to find a wire that energizes when the vehicle’s key is turned on and turns off when the key is turned off. Connect the socket lead wire to this wire.
12000 lbs Winch
- Connect the red wire from the winch to the positive terminal (+) on the battery.
- Connect the black wire from the winch to the negative terminal (-) on the battery.
- Connect the remote control to the winch using the provided plug. Make sure the connection is secure.
- Install the circuit breaker close to the battery within easy reach. This will allow you to quickly cut power to the winch if necessary.
- Connect the red wire from the circuit breaker to the positive terminal (+) on the battery.
- Connect the other red wire from the circuit breaker to the red wire on the winch.
- The winch solenoid is already wired to the winch motor. You do not need to make any additional connections.
- The fairlead does not require any wiring. It is used to guide the winch cable and prevent it from rubbing against the winch mount.
- The winch mount does not require any wiring. It is used to securely attach the winch to your vehicle.
