Trasmuters have access to some of the , to the point where some of the spells have needed total overhauls through errata. The ability to change forms is something that comes up a lot in mythology, yet that power might be a little too potent in the hands of aD&Dplayer.

TheWizards who chooseD&D'sSchool of Transmutation for their Arcane Tradition start off with a weak power, but they soon gain some amazing subclass features. The Minor Alchemy feature at level two lets the transmuter change one substance into another, except that it's only low-value materials, and it only lasts for an hour. The Transmuter's , as it creates a magic stone that can grant a number of buffs to its holder, which can be switched when a transmutation spell is cast. The Shapechanger feature at level ten is essentially a weaker version ofpolymorph, but it can be cast once for free before taking a rest. The Master Transmuter feature at level fourteen is amazing, as it has powers equal to a Cleric, as the Transmuter's Stone can now cure curses, diseases, poisons, as well as acting as araise dead spell.

The school of transmutation has two of the most broken spells in the history ofDungeons & Dragons:hasteandpolymorph.Thehastespell grants additional actions per round, andpolymorphhas near limitless utility. The versions ofpolymorphthat can be used on enemies were also OP, as a single failed save meant a mighty enemy could be turned into a chicken. A combination ofconjure woodland beingsandpolymorphnearly ruined the balance of. The transmutation spells might not be as flashy as evocation or illusion spells, but the ability to exceed the limitations of a humanoid form should not be taken lightly, and there is a strong argument to be made for transmutation being the most powerful school of magic inDungeons & Dragons.
