Quarterbacks Running Backs

Week 10 is coming in like a storm. Big name players disappeared last week. No name players rose up last week and there were injuries all over the place. We are in the last third of our fantasy seasons and have no time to waste. The good news is that a lot of new and young players seem to be stepping up and most of these guys are available to you on waivers.

With the injuries going into Week 10 and Kansas City, Philadelphia, Miami and the Los Angeles Rams all on byes this week we are going to need the waiver wire more than ever. So let’s get into it, and, as always, let’s start with..

Quarterbacks

Taylor Heinicke stepped in for Atlanta and had a very nice outing on Sunday. In his first start this year Heinicke threw for 268 yards and a touchdown. He also ranthree times for 20 yards. Heinicke is already slated to start in Week 10 against a woeful Arizona defense. He is available in 95 percent of leagues so he is a top priority for those in need of a quarterback, right?

On second thought, wrong.

Heinicke was vanilla against a weak Minnesota defense. The ceiling is very low here. He is going to make mistakes, like the interception he threw on Sunday. He also does not add much with his legs. However, in a deep league, in a pinch, you could use him. There are just usually better options on the waiver wire in Week 10 and the guy who miraculously beat Heinicke on Sunday is one of those options.

Joshua Dobbs, the newest addition to the Minnesota Vikings, had a heck of a welcome to the purple and gold. Dobbs was forced into the game during the first quarter when starter Jaren Hall suffered a concussion. He started shaky, as could be expected, but settled down and finished with 158 yards, two touchdowns and 66 rushing yards. It was all you could have expected. Dobbs had done a pretty good job in Arizona already with an inferior offensive unit. The eye test tells me that with the weapons he has in Minnesota we may realize that Joshua Dobbs is better than we thought. He is available in 84 percent of leagues.

Minnesotawill take its newfound life into Week 10 against New Orleans, and Dobbs should be able to put up some good fantasy points for you.

Chicago’sTyson Bagent put up some serious fantasy points on Sunday. Bagent completed 18 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 70 yards. There are a couple of things that need to be noted with Bagent. The first is that he hadthreeinterceptions and one fumble. So the guy is going to make mistakes. He will, however, make up for those with the points he gives you from his legs. The second is, if he gets the start, Chicago is going against hapless Carolina this week. There will be lots of fantasy points available for Bagent.

One last note, pay attention to this one. IfJustin Fields comes back, Bagent might not play. You do have a better chance than normal of him playing, since it’s a short week, as they play on Thursday night. Bagent is available in 97 percent of leagues and could be a really sneaky pick for a spot start in Week 10.

Bonus QB:

Kyler Murray, the Arizona quarterback, is practicing this week and according to head coach Jonathan Gannon, if he looks OK, he will play. I shouldn’t need to remind you of the fantasy ability Murray brings to the table. That is why it is shocking that he is available in 65 percent of leagues still. If he is available he is the best pick of any quarterback out there. He may have rust for a week or two but he will be the best waiver wire quarterbackyou can get this late in the season by far, period.

Running Backs

Baltimore knows how to run the football and Keaton Mitchell is the latest back showing out. Mitchell rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s decimation of Seattle. The Baltimore speedster is available in 99 percent of leagues. In a time of the season when owners are searching frantically for any running back with a pulse, Mitchell is a must grab off of waivers in Week 10, right?

On second thought, pass.

The numbers jump off the page for sure but you have to understand that this game got out of control quickly. Heck, Lamar Jackson wasn’t even playing in the fourth quarter. What this means is Mitchell got his points off of what we affectionately call “garbage time” minutes. You cannot expect this kind of production going forward. Due to his talent he is certainly a player to watch but not one you want to trust in your lineup in Week 10.

You can put your trust in D’Onta Foreman, however. The Chicago running back is available in 54 percent of leagues and looked strong on Sunday. Foreman rushed for 83 yards against a stout New Orleans defense. He is the lead back right now in Chicago and has a great match up on a short week this Thursday against Carolina which usually means good things for running backs.

Do take heed that Khalil Herbert may be back on Thursday, but as it will be his first week back and it is a short week, Foreman will still command much of the workload. Foreman has a very nice floor and a pretty good ceiling. For a Week 10 running back waiver wire claim he is a strong pick, for sure.

Another strong pick with a high floor is Atlanta’sTyler Allgeier.

Allgeier has not been flashy this season, but he is steady in his attempts. Atlanta has been giving him an average of 14.2 attempts per game over the last five games. For a running back available in 52 percent of leagues in Week 10, those are great numbers. He got 12 rushes on Sunday for 39 yards and a touchdown. You never want to put up a zero in therunning back slot and if you need help at running back, Allgeier will see to it that you have a decent number every week. Bonus for Allgeier in Week 10, Atlanta faces Arizona. That could mean some nice garbage time points indeed.
